Quotes from 2007 Autumn Workshop writers:

"Writing helps you capture random and/or deep thoughts -- like butterflies in a net.  Expose them on paper and let the real truth be told."   Pat

"I learned that if I did not sit down, I would not write.  The solution was simple.  Just write. It's all about starting."   Peter

"I came here with stories that needed to be written, but I didn't have the discipline to sit down and allow them to blossom.  I just needed to be pushed a little, and suddenly, my writing became much less wooden, more passionate."  Bonnie

"I learned to just write.  It doesn't have to be perfect.  Just put it on paper.  I learned that I am a writer and have stories to tell."  Roberta

"I learned how to show, not tell.  I never fully understood this before, but now I believe I'm finally beginning to get it.  My audience doesn't need to be led around by the nose and told, in effect, how to think."  Sherry

Nineteen years of teaching college writing and community    workshops have taught me what Brenda Ueland discovered, too.   Most of us really do want to put our thoughts down in writing, either for ourselves and/or for others.

For some reason (usually those nagging voices from our past telling us we're not good enough, which is absurd!), we've stopped believing this truth: The words we want to write do matter, and we, by virtue of being human, deserve to delight ourselves with them.

I do, however, understand the fears associated with writing. As a weekly columnist for 18 years, I still sit down, pen in hand, and wonder, "Will this be the day the words desert me?" I also know, though, that in a caring and joyful environment, people can overcome those fears and connect with the thoughts and stories within them. Writing is a freeing leap of faith that allows us to become joyful and impassioned and sane(r) again!  Really!

Through my safe, supportive, and fun (yes, fun) writing workshops, the writing you create will end up delighting and inspiring you.  If you've always wanted to write, don't wait.  Sign up now for my spring workshop, "Time to Write."

In the words of St. Augustine: "God has promised forgiveness to your repentence, but He has not promised tomorrow to your procrastination."
